A Zimbabwean woman was killed after a stone hurled towards a moving train hit her as she sat by the window, according to Eyewitnesses.
Attempts by other passengers to resuscitate her were futile and she died.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the Bellville police are investigating the cause of death.
An inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott said their investigation did not reveal any additional information. “We appeal to any eyewitness to contact the police with information. Metrorail is awaiting the outcome of the police’s investigation.”
The stoning of cars, buses and trains is often protest-related although other incidents are random and sporadic, but more prevalent near informal settlements.
Mourners are gathered at a house in Kraaifontein and she will be buried in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwean Man Shot in Stellenbosch
Fear has gripped the black settlement of Khayamandi in Stellenbosch after a Zimbabwean man survived three bullets shot at him just outside his house. He suffered injuries on both legs and shoulder.
The man (name withheld for security reasons) was parking his car when three armed man appeared and started firing at him. The motive of the shooting is not yet known, but the three asked for the car keys before they vanished into the darkness. The victim was taken to Paarl Medi-Clinic for medical attention.
AllnetAfrica is reliably informed that no arrests have so far been made but the case is being handled by police at Khayamandi police station.
Another Shot in Joe Slovo
In a similar incident, a Zimbabwean man was reportedly shot and injured in Joe Slovo and his BMW vehicle taken. He was shot on one arm and on the stomarch. The man was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital where he is still in critical condition. According to his relatives, the car has been recovered and police are still investigating the case.
