Zimbabwe’s Deputy President Emmerson Mnangagwa was on Sunday flown to South Africa to seek further medical treatment for suspected food poisoning, reports said.
According to the private daily NewsDay, Mnangagwa left the country from a military Manyame Airbase in Gweru enroute to Lanseria airport in South Africa.
Mnangagwa was taken ill on Saturday at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda during a Zanu PF youth rally addressed by President Robert Mugabe.
Several sources said he was vomiting during the rally, while other sources claimed he might have been a victim of food poisoning.
The NewsDay said Mugabe’s deputy was initially admitted at a private hospital in Gweru before being transferred to a military hospital at the Midlands capital.
Mnangagwa reportedly leads a Zanu PF faction that is pushing for Mugabe’s ouster.
The faction boosts support of the military and war veterans. Mugabe recently warned army chiefs to stay away from civilian politics.
