Johannesburg - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has reportedly confirmed that Zimbabwe’s first lady, Grace Mugabe, has handed herself over to the police.

She is now due to appear in court.

Grace Mugabe may be arrested for assault of a young South African model Gabriella Engels, who claims that Grace assaulted her severely. But diplomatic immunity would have to be considered before the arrest.

“As far as I’m concerned we are dealing with the matter and will get the full report today. Arresting a person of her stature … she can be arrested. If she came here with her diplomatic passport, she’ll have diplomatic immunity. This doesn’t mean she cannot be arrested,” South Africa’s Police Minister said earlier.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has condemned the conduct of Zimbabwe’s first lady Grace Mugabe, who allegedly assaulted a young woman in Sandton, Johannesburg.

According to media reports and social media posts, President Robert Mugabe’s wife allegedly attacked the woman with an extension cord after finding her with her two sons. The woman suffered head injuries and bruises on her body.

The first lady was in South Africa apparently to seek medical attention.
