Lilongwe - Malawi has been commended for implementing reforms aimed at boosting the economy, and is now ranked 110 from 133 in the ease of doing business in sub-Saharan Africa.
This is according to a World Bank report released Wednesday.
“Malawi therefore features as one of the 10 economies showing the most notable improvement in Doing Business 2018. In the sub-Saharan region, it is joined by Djibouti, Nigeria and Zambia,” the report read in part.
The 6.33 points increase was the highest in the Sub-Saharan region and means that in the last year Malawi has improved its business regulations as captured by the Doing Business indicators in absolute terms, the Nyasha Times said in a report.
According to the report, the development means that the country is narrowing the gap with the global regulatory frontier.
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigatuon and Water Development, Jospeh Mwanamvekha is quoted by the Nyasha Times assuring that “government will sustain the gains and push for more reforms”.
