Harare - Zimbabwe legislators on Wednesday forced Parliament to abort sitting protesting failure by Treasury to pay them their outstanding allowances.

Treasury owes the legislators sitting allowances amounting to $15 million.

The Members of Parliament (MPs) who are paid $75 per sitting plus fuel and hotel expenses are also demanding their allocation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Each of Zimbabwe’s MP’s is entitled to $50 000 to develop their constituencies under the CDF scheme that was introduced in 2010.

However, Treasury has failed to own up saying it is broke, but the MP’s would have none of it citing the former’s profligacy when it comes to President Robert Mugabe and his family.

Mugabe blow millions in every foreign trip he undertakes, and is one not to miss an international event even when he will be the only sittign President in attendance.

Pressed by MP’s to reveal when Treasury will clear the outstanding allowances, newly appointed Justice and Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister, Happyton Bonyongwe had no answer.

“My ministry is seized with that issue. I request that I get sufficient time to look into it,” Bonyongwe could only say.

White Treasury is mum on when it will pay the MP’s, government last week promised to spent over $5million buying all-terrain 4×4 vehicles for chiefs.
