Harare - Zimbabwe police have threatened to arrest those who boo and laugh at the First Lady Grace Mugabe under an unclear chargeable offence - which can land offenders in jail.
Grace was booed at a rally in Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo on Saturday, and police have launched a manhunt for the ringleaders.
It is a first for the country.
“Police are anxious to interview Magura Magura Charumbira NR: 22-221801-F22, aged 34, in connection with an incident that occurred during the Presidential Youth Interface Rally at White City Stadium on the 4th of November 2017”.
“The incident occurred while the First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe was addressing a gathering during the rally,” acting Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Chipfunde is quoted saying in a state owned local daily.
An angry President Robert Mugabe threatened to expel his deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa after his wife was booed, and true to his word, he expelled him on Monday.
But it is the intention of the police to arrest those that booed the First Lady that has attracted scorn.
“Welcome to Zimbabwe, where heckling the First Lady is a criminal offence,” one of the tweets read.
