Abuja - A movement representing black Nigerians has condemned the human trafficking of and slave trade of fellow countrymen and other nationals in Libya.
The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa president, Felix Kupa condemned the practice, calling on the federal government to take a stand against to protect migrant Nigerians from abuse.
“The movement has petitioned the Nigerian Ambassador to Libya, Isah Aliyu, to come out and speak to Nigerians about the content of the video which shows young Nigerians being sold into slavery.
“NBM appeals to Libyan leadership to properly investigate this case and bring to justice those involved. The movement, while condemning this act drastically, urged the federal government to seek a permanent solution in curbing human trafficking and slave trade in the country,” Kupa said in a statement.
Videos have emerged showing black Africans being auctioned in Libya for as low as $400, focusing international attention on the exploitation of migrants and refugees in the North Africa country.
Libya is seen as a getaway to Europe for hundreds of thousands of suffering Africans but many have died during the torturous journey on sea, while several desperate others are being captured for re-sale by human trafficking syndicates.
