Gunmen have killed two people and wounded two others in another attack in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province. Armed men burned 27 local residents’ houses during the raid on the villages of Mitumbate and Makulo.

Information made public during an extraordinary session of the Mocímboa da Praia district government on Sunday indicates that the individuals responsible were the ones seen moving in the woods in the neighbouring district of Nangade. The session was presided by Cabo Delgado Governor Júlio Parruque.

In the same session, it was announced that since 5 October this year, 308 people had been arrested, of whom 208 were being prosecuted, and one hundred had been released for lack of evidence.

Of the 208 charged, 152 were men, and 56 women, and of these, 165 were nationals and 43 foreigners.

The Mocímboa da Praia district government report states that 44 children whose parents had been arrested in connection with the case were referred to social welfare assistance.

Six vehicles and a motorcycle supposedly used by the armed bandits during their raids in the district of Mocímboa da Praia were seized by defence and security forces,

Governor Paruque urged the population to continue to cooperate with defence and security forces in pursuit of those terrorising the community.
