Zimbabwe’s interim president Emmerson Mnangagwa is today making a working visit to Mozambique which includes a meeting with Mozambican head of state Filipe Nyusi.
The visit comes at the invitation of the Mozambican president, and the meeting between the two is scheduled for 10:50 in the presidential palace in Maputo, Nyusi’s cabinet has announced in a statement.
“The visit of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to our country is part of the strengthening of relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Mozambique and Zimbabwe in the commercial, regional and international domains,” the document says.
Mnangagwa is accompanied on his visit by the Zimbabwean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subusiso Moyo, and other government officials.
The visit comes five days after Zimbabwe’s interim president visited Angola, another Lusophone country, where he announced a meeting of the joint commission to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
He was also invited by the Angolan head of state, João Lourenço, as chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ for Policy, Defence and Security, to address issues related to the political situation in Zimbabwe.
Emmerson Mnangagwa is leading a transitional government in Zimbabwe until a general election scheduled for mid-2018, after a military operation led to the removal of Robert Mugabe as head of state in November.
