President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s new government has sacked dozens of top Zimbabwe Republic Police officers in a move meant to restore public confidence in the police force.
This follows the earlier firing of the Police Chief Augustine Chihuri who now faces a civil lawsuit of almost U.S$3 million.
The retired Commissioner General was a bonafide leader who presided over and lead from the front in transforming the ZRP into a corrupt entity.
Sources in Harare have confirmed the developments and said most of the senior officers had been issued with retirement letters.
In an interview with the Herald, Acting Comm-Gen Matanga said, “There is something happening. Can you contact me tomorrow.”
