Botswana President, Ian Khama and his Namibian counterpart, Hage Geingob have signed a boundary treaty to regulate the free movement of their nationals and goods between the two countries.
“The boundary should not be a hindrance and should, instead, facilitate movement. Having our people on both sides, this treaty is an absolute necessity which is why we are signing it in public,” Geingob is quoted saying by local media after the signing of the boundary treaty at State House on Monday.
Khama is on a two day state visit to Namibia.
“It once again reaffirms another important milestone in our joint efforts to further strengthen the longstanding excellent relations between our two countries,” Khama said.
In a statement issued last week, minister of presidential Affairs Frans Kapofi said Namibia views the visit as an opportunity to further strengthen the existing cordial relations between the two countries.
“The bilateral relations between Namibia and Botswana are founded on strong political, economic, cultural and historic ties, which have contributed to increased trade between the two countries,” Kapofi said.
