Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has expressed confidence that the opposition will defeat the long ruling Zanu-PF in harmonised elections to be held before September this year.
Addressing several thousands of opposition supporters at White City Stadium in Bulawayo, the country’s second largest city, Chamisa declared that he is the next president.
“We will win this election. We have already won this election,” Chamisa who is the presidential candidate of the MDC Alliance – a grouping of opposition parties – said.
“We want a free and fair election. Victory is certain,” he added.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to ensure the country will hold a free, fair and credible election.
Mnangagwa has also expressed hope of defeating the opposition in the upcoming polls.
The country’s election results have since independence been contested amid reports of vote fraud, and other electoral irregularities in favour of the ruling party.
