Pretoria: SOUTH Africa’s opposition leader Mmusi Maimane has angrily dismissed charges he is a puppet of white people, and does not control the Democratic Alliance party he leads.
Maimane has been confronted with allegations he was not the leader of DA, despite him having been given that title.
The opposition Economic Freedom Fighters has on several occasions cast doubt on whether Maimane wielded any influence, dismissing him as a puppet.
“They even say that I am a puppet of white people and, if we win an election, I will be replaced by a white person.
“The truth is that I will never be black enough for them. Because they don’t want black people to think for themselves,” Maimane said.
“They want black people to remain trapped in the politics of race because this is what keeps the ANC in power.”
Maimane stressed further that his blackness does not add or subtract from his humanity or define him.
