The main opposition party - Movement for Democratic Party- has claimed it has unearthed gross errors after its audit of the country’s voters’ roll ahead of the general election.
The party led by Nelson Chamisa is “utterly dismayed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s continued manipulation of the election in clear violation of the law, the constitution and complete disregard for transparency and fair play.”
“Our own random audit has unearthed scandalous and embarrassing details on the Voters’ Roll. We have discovered some of the oldest people on our Voters’ Roll aged around 150 years old who don’t exist,” the party said in a statement.
The MDC party has claimed to have discovered many non-existent houses with tens of people registered under them in what it says is part of the rigging plot by the ruling Zanu-PF party.
In Chiredzi, the MDC parliamentary candidate Festus Dumbu has revealed on facebook that a house in the small town where the Zanu-PF candidate Farai Musikavanhu resides is also home for 316 people.
Dumbu said,”this method of rigging is too kindergarten. So this stupid rigging method is national. This is why ZEC has been refusing to give opposition parties, copies of voters roll. More and more information will be unearthed.”
Nelson Chamisa’s party says it has also discovered many people with the same IDs.
The MDC party has also warned that “unless the Zimbabwe Electoral commission is stopped, there is no chance of a free, fair, credible and legitimate election taking place on the 30th of July 2018”.
