Maputo: THE Mozambican Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MITESS) has refused requests to hire foreign workers presented by from 362 companies over unpaid debts to the National Social Security Institute (INSS).
The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Vitória Diogo, said the requests refer to the months of March and June of this year.
“Detection of debts was possible thanks to inter-operability between the Migration System and the Social Security Information System,” Diogo said, while remaining tight-lipped on the actual amount of the debts.
In the last three years, MITESS inspections have detected 45,341 infractions, 35,119 warranting a warning and 10,222 assessment.
Violation of procedures for the hiring of foreign labour are among those detected.
The press release indicates that 1.1 million jobs were created in Mozambique between 2015 and June 2018, of which 27,603 were taken up by foreign workers.
