Mozambican head of state Filipe Nyusi congratulated Emmerson Mnangagwa on his election as president of Zimbabwe on Friday.
The election outcome is being challenged by the opposition alliance leader Nelson Chamisa, who has vowed to reveal overwhelming evidence of vote rigging in the courts.
President Nyusi’s message stressed that Mnangagwa’s election would ensure that Mozambique and Zimbabwe would continue to enjoy friendly relations, as well as furthering the interests of citizens of both countries.
“There is no doubt that the people of Zimbabwe spoke out loud and clearly, therefore, I sincerely wish many successes in carrying out the legitimate mandate that you have been given to lead your destinies in this important post of Head of State and Government. For many years Zimbabwe has been a key partner for Mozambique, both bilaterally and multilaterally, especially in the SADC and the African Union,” the message reads.
