Harare: Zimbabwe has slashed the application free for the production of cannabis from US$50 000 to US$10 000.
The southern African nation has legalised the growing of the drug but only for medical purposes.
Possession and smoking cannabis attracts a jail sentence Zimbabwe.
According to Statutory Instrument (SI) 178/2018, an airport named in honour of ousted long serving despot Robert Mugabe remains the only port of entry of cannabis.
Mugabe was forced out of power in a military coup in November 2017.
“For the purposes of these regulations, the designated port of entry or exit for fresh or dried cannabis, cannabis plants, cannabis seeds, or cannabis oil shall be Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare,” the SI 178/2018 reads in part.
In countries such as Australia, Puerto Rico, Poland, Czech Republic, Canada, Croatia and Macedonia the production of cannabis is legal for medicinal purposes in some form.
But in others such as Japan, the Cannabis Control Law can dish out a five year prison sentence for smoking a single joint, along with hard labour.
Those caught trafficking or selling marijuana, even in small quantities, can be sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
