Vehicle Movements Banned Ahead of Nigeria Polls

Lagos: NIGERIA security forces have issued a restriction order of all vehicular movements during Saturday’s presidential election amid security concerns during the voting process.



The restriction order, to ostensibly assist the security forces to police the electoral process, is effective from 6am to 6pm.

“…the restriction will assist the security agencies in effectively policing the electoral process, thereby preventing hoodlums and criminally-minded elements from hijacking and disrupting the electoral process,” reads in part a notice by Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP M.A Adamu

Africa’s populous nation heads to the polls tomorrow where President Muhammad Buhari faces a strong challenge from Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president.

As much as 73 presidential candidates are contesting to lead the continent’s leading economy and its top oil producer.



According to the country’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), nearly 84 million are registered to vote in the polls.

Last Sunday, two of INEC’s office buildings housing voting materials were burned down.
