The Organising Committee for the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cameroon 2021 met on Wednesday, 15 January 2020, at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Top on the agenda of the meeting was the organization of the final tournament. In attendance were CAF representatives and Cameroonian authorities.
In his opening remarks, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, commended President of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul Biya for the huge interest and the efforts he continues to deploy to ensure success of this great competition in a country passionate about football.
He congratulated Samuel Eto’o Fils, his Advisor, for his commitment and coordination with CAF towards the organisation of a successful competition in Cameroon. The CAF President also thanked the Organising Committee and lauded the good cooperation between CAF and the Cameroonian Football Federation, FECAFOOT.
On the other hand, Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, on behalf of the state, expressed gratitude to CAF President Ahmad and other members of the CAF delegation for their unwavering commitment to the organization of the tournament.
He reiterated Cameroon’s focus and commitment to ensure they meet the optimal conditions to host the tournament.
The main item on the agenda was the review of the competition period at the request of the Cameroonian side. Faced with the challenge of unfavourable climatic conditions during the initial period (June-July), FECAFOOT expressed its wish to re-evaluate the dates for a favourable one.
After the exchanges, particularly from the Cameroonian meteorological officials and representatives of coaches and players, the AFCON Organising Committee, mandated by the CAF Executive Committee to make a decision, obliged to this request.
Consequently, the 2021 edition of the Total Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Cameroon, from 9 January to 6 February 6. A detailed report will be presented to the CAF Executive Committee at its next meeting scheduled for 6 February 2020.
In close collaboration with FECAFOOT, CAF will set up a Monitoring Committee to carry out the preparations for this important competition.
