Leeroy Kamusena Lunga, who is one of the two last men standing (the other being Lucky Mumuriki) from the original System Tazvida’s Chazezesa Challengers, has emerged in Cape Town where he has become an instant darling to many Zimbabweans resident in the Coastal City.
Kamusena was unveiled during the New Africa Entertainment facebook live streaming when the veteran guitarist displayed a polished act which spiked views exponentially on the host page.
He churned out hits from the late System Tazvida which included Anodyiwa Hataure, Smoko yega yega, Kaserura ndizvo and one of his popular song Handinyengerere. His lead guitar was spectacular. Simba Saini who was in the house joined Boyz Dze Smoko on the stage and took over the drumming in a show of brotherhood to Kamusena, and the stage got lit.
The nomadic musician opened up on his music career to AllnetAfrica, which saw him penetrate the Mozambican Market in the past few years before settling in Cape Town during the first quarter of the year 2020.
Kamusena is currently working on a new album which he plans to release during or after the lock-down.
” I initially came to Cape Town for the funeral of my uncle but because of the lockdown I couldn’t return to Mozambique where I have been based. Now, I have settled well here and lots of our fans love our music,” Leeroy told AllnetAfrica on the sidelines of his live performance.
“I have a new outfit with which I am busy doing rehearsals ahead of the new album launch. I urge our supporters to watch the space because hatisati tapera, tichiri kubvira semoto,” the gifted lead guitarist added.
Leeroy Lunga, who had played with the Super Sounds and the Kasongo Band rose to stardom when he became part of the star-studded Chazezesa Challengers led by System Tazvida who sadly died in 1999.
The Chazezesa Challengers included brothers Peter Tazvida on bass, Isaac Tazvida on backing vocals, Lucky Mumiriki on Rhythm a former member of Nyami Nyami Sounds, Hurungwe Sounds and the Sungura Boys, Roggers Fatiya a former member of Titus Zihute on Drums and his young brother Last Fatiya who also played with Titus zihute was on Lead guitar.
